What is ESIC?
The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is a statutory corporate body under the ownership of Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, the other being the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation.
It is a social security and health insurance scheme for Indian workers in the organized sector. The scheme provides medical care, sickness benefits, maternity benefits, disablement benefits, and survivor benefits to eligible workers and their families.
The ESIC was established in 1948 under the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948. The scheme is applicable to factories and other establishments where 10 or more persons are employed.
The ESIC is funded by contributions from employers and employees. The contribution rate is 4.7% of the employee’s wages, with 3.2% paid by the employer and 1.5% paid by the employee.

The 17 digit number is generated using the ESIC portal after the employer has submitted their employee’s information.
The ESIC number is used to identify employees who are eligible for benefits under the ESI scheme. It is also used to track the contributions that employees and employers have made to the ESI scheme.
The ESIC number is a valuable document for employees. It can be used to:
- Claim ESI benefits, such as medical care, sickness benefits, maternity benefits, disablement benefits, and survivor benefits.
- Track contributions that have been made to the ESI scheme.
- Verify employment status.

- Contact your employer: If you are not sure whether your employer is registered with the ESIC or if you cannot find your ESIC number on your payslips, you can contact your employer. They should be able to provide you with your ESIC number.
- Check the ESIC website: You can also check your ESIC number on the ESIC website. To do this, you will need to create an account on the website and provide some basic information, such as your name and date of birth. Once you have created an account, you will be able to view your ESIC number.
Here are the steps on how to check your ESIC number on the ESIC website:

- Click on the “Employees” tab.
- Click on the “Registered Employees” link.
- Enter your ESIC number and password.
- Click on the “Login” button.
- Your ESIC number will be displayed on the screen.
If you have forgotten your ESIC number, you can reset it by following these steps:
- Go to the ESIC website: https://esic.gov.in/
- Click on the “Employees” tab.
- Click on the “Forgot Password” link.
- Enter your name and date of birth.
- Click on the “Submit” button.
- A new password will be sent to your registered email address.
Once you have your ESIC number, you can use it to claim ESI benefits, track your contributions, and verify your employment status.
How to download ESIC Card?
There are two ways to download your ESIC card:
- Through the ESIC website:
- Go to the ESIC website: https://esic.gov.in/
- Click on the “Employees” tab.
- Click on the “e-Pehchan card” link.
- Enter your ESIC number and password.
- Click on the “View” button.
- Your e-Pehchan card will be displayed on the screen. You can download it by clicking on the “Download” button.
- Through the UMANG app:
- Download the UMANG app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
- Open the UMANG app and sign in with your Aadhaar number or mobile number.
- Click on the “ESIC” icon.
- Click on the “e-Pehchan card” link.
- Your e-Pehchan card will be displayed on the screen. You can download it by clicking on the “Download” button.
Once you have downloaded your ESIC card, you can keep it safe for future reference. You can use it to claim ESI benefits, track your contributions, and verify your employment status.
What is IP Number in ESIC?

- Your ESIC balance will be displayed on the screen.

Through the ESIC SMS service:
- Send an SMS to 7738299828 with the following format:
ESIC EPFNO <space> DOB
For example, if your ESIC number is 1234567890 and your date of birth is 10-01-1980, you would send the following SMS:
ESIC 1234567890 10011980
You will receive an SMS with your ESIC balance.
